Quick blurbs about personalities of the Crystal Beasts and such, because I felt like it.

Ruby Carbuncle: Frequently considered the "baby" of the family, however, though she may be playful and curious and just downright adorable like any child, this doesn't at all mean she actually is a child, in a manner of speaking. Yes, she's adorable, but she knows it -- in the same way a woman who is attractive may be flirtatious to those who are interested, Ruby uses her image of cuteness to her advantage. She's not malicious or manipulative by any stretch of the imagination, but she's also not beyond using her "cute" status to butter up the rest of her family sometimes, or to boost spirits. Depending on who she's targeting and what the context is, it may or may not actually work, though. She's also quite intelligent and perceptive, with five keen and sharpened senses around to match; in actuality, she's not nearly as naive and childish as her looks and behavior might lead you to believe. Ruby can actually be quite competitive, despite having a very large heart. For the most part, though, she's the one who is looked upon to keep the family in high spirits with her persistent charm, since she almost seems to lack any real negative emotions that would affect others (competitive streak and occasional jauntiness-bordering-brattiness aside).

Amber Mammoth: His most defining trait is probably his sense of chivalry and respect. While not nearly as aggressive when it comes to justice as Topaz Tiger, and more likely to suggest looking before leaping at any given time, he's probably one of the more well-rounded of the Crystal Beasts, reflected in his almost-equal attack and defense stats. For this reason, he's capable of fulfilling most roles given to him, be it acting as a sword or a shield. In truth, though, despite the exceptionally sturdy body and intimidating size, Amber Mammoth is a rather sensitive soul with a more mild disposition who dislikes seeing anyone, much less his family, getting hurt. He'd probably rather take the hit for others than see them hit themselves, which is also reflected in his ability to redirect attacks against other Crystal Beasts towards himself. In this way, he'd easily be the first to sacrifice himself for the sake of the rest of his family. Which isn't to say the others wouldn't, but Amber Mammoth is probably the most selfless of all of them.

Topaz Tiger: Clearly very prideful, as any big cat ought to be (as reflected in his use of "ore-sama", of course). However, he also possesses a certain sense of justice, making him rather intolerant of anything he views to be unjust. While he's easily the heaviest hitter of the entire family, and similarly can be the most aggressive, Topaz Tiger is also very clever and knows his limits under normal circumstances. That's not to say he can't be overtaken by emotion or outrage at any pointedly immoral action, though. His sense of humor is the sort where he won't hesitate to make snide remarks that accentuate his sense of pride, although he tries to draw the line at anything purposely hurtful. Despite the fact that his bite is absolutely worse than his... roar, he makes no effort to hide how ambitious and proud he is. All in all, though, a select few of the Crystal Beasts do know how to take him down a peg or two if necessary, for the times when his ego gets out of hand -- Amethyst Cat in particular, as it turns out, possibly related to being both a female big cat and being an almost equally aggressive big cat when she's so inclined. (Ruby Carbuncle may or may not be a close runner-up.)

Emerald Turtle: The "grandfather" of the family, as it were. Turtles are certainly famed for their longevity, and are often depicted as a symbol of wisdom as a result, and he is no exception, although that's not all there is to him. His advice and judgment ability are the most highly respected of all the Crystal Beasts by far, but age turns out to be anything but an obstacle to him in other respects as well. He's not in the least forgetful or clumsy, as the stereotype would have anyone think, and could probably hold a contest of wits with the best of them, to say the least. And though time has toughened him up physically and mentally, it has yet to wear him down -- Emerald Turtle is actually capable of a lot more physically than one might expect, and can take quite a few hits as well as hold his own if prompted, in many ways. Overall, Emerald Turtle is a sage and commanding figure; he can be determined and forceful, or insightful and analytical, and other times he comes off as being very gentle and understanding. Though he doesn't always contribute or commit if he feels it better to withhold his opinion until he can make a better-informed decision, a trait of patience that was granted to him through age, when he does, it's usually worth listening to and seriously considering. In the end, the "fire of youth", to put it in a cliche way, still has yet to putter out in him.

Sapphire Pegasus: Most often considered the "leader" of the Crystal Beasts... or "sub-leader", really, since Johan will always be at the top. He has most of the qualities of a leader, and has struck a good balance between them: he's generally bold and assertive and knows when to take action and how to do it; he's charismatic and clever, able to decide upon the best course of action in as little time as necessary and convey it to the rest of the family clearly and precisely; and most of all, he's responsible and dependable and overall a very likable and trustworthy individual, and he has yet to break his word or let the family down when it really counts. Despite being held in such high regard as the second-in-command, though, Sapphire Pegasus feels a great deal of pressure on him to do the right thing and make sure everyone is safe and happy. The responsibility placed onto him with the sub-leadership role is eased a bit by Johan, but he's too righteous to attribute any supposed mistakes to him, and would much rather blame himself. He holds both a sense of familial affection and a sense of duty towards Johan and the other Crystal Beasts, and failing even one of them would take a heavy toll on him. Similar to Amber Mammoth, he would also rather give himself if it would spare everyone else, but for a different reason: while Amber Mammoth is more sensitive and dislikes the pain of other creatures in general, Sapphire Pegasus knows on some level that nothing is without its fair share of pain, and everything comes as a price. He's trained himself to choose between the lesser of two evils if necessary, and although he does frequently remind himself that a little pain and sacrifice is sometimes inevitable, he won't hesitate to hold himself fiercely, furiously responsible for anything that goes wrong.

Cobalt Eagle: Unlike most of the others, while he has a reasonably sharp set of talons when necessary, Cobalt Eagle is built for neither offense nor defense. He tends to focus more on scouting and support when he can, taking full advantage of the sharp eyesight, speed, and maneuverability of a bird of prey that the other aerial member of the Crystal Beasts, Sapphire Pegasus, isn't as suited for. His personality is similar; although he's certainly not beyond offering retorts of varying acidity to anyone who wants to trade sarcastic remarks with him, he generally prefers to observe and gather information and then use it to his advantage when necessary. In this way, it's possible to regard him as the quietest of the family, though it's not because he's reserved or shy at all -- rather, it's because he's always watching and listening carefully, taking in information and piecing it together strategically in his head. He moves at his own pace compared to the others, and seems to be a rather good-natured person in general. Although he is definitely on the same level as most of the others when it comes to maintaining snarky exchanges, he still usually winds up being the one on the receiving end of the first verbal jab that starts the contest.

Amethyst Cat: The token tsundere-type with the on-again off-again attitude. Being a feline, she can be seen as rather "catty" in various ways, from how occasionally snippy she can get when irritated, to how she indeed likes to behave as a cool and confident lady-cat who can handle most anything. The image of the latter is not undeserved, either, since when she's not sniping at anyone who's crossed her with a few blunt words or raking claws across their face (being a favored target area of hers, of course), she is actually very pristine and queenly, able to articulate herself well and overall lend a very mature and womanly impression. Amethyst Cat does have a notoriously quick temper and inability to suffer fools lightly, though, and is a bit more inclined than the others to jump to conclusions, even if her rational mind advises against it. When not being sassy or blunt, though, she is a bit more openly affectionate and even a little more warmly teasing of the rest of the family. Occasionally, one or two of the others like to provoke her, but there's never any real heat or hard feelings between any of them. She tends to be the one who is most judgmental and wary of any strangers, and will be the first one to want to rip any backstabbers to shreds, making her a bit more vengeful than most of the boys she keeps a big-sister eye on -- only if she feels truly wronged, however, since she isn't so aggressive and knee-jerk as to go out and attack people indiscriminately or on a mere hunch. Like Ruby Carbuncle, Amethyst Cat is not beyond flaunting what she's got, though less in the cute way and more in the "I'm beautiful but deadly, so get on my bad side and I'll rip you a new one" way.
