When Jack finally finds Ianto, he's sitting on the roof of the Millennium Centre. It's a cloudy night, cool but dry. Ianto doesn't even seem to notice the wind blowing over the roof as Jack silently sits next to him.

Ianto turns to look at him, and Jack momentarily experiences double vision. In the shadows, he's the young Ianto that first started at Torchwood Three all those years ago. Then Ianto moves, and Jack can see the face of the man he is now.

There's a scar cutting across Ianto's face, one that barely missed the eye. His skin is no longer the smooth, taut thing that it used to be. Ianto's older - no, Jack suddenly realises. He's old. Only his eyes are the same.

Jack knows too well that he hasn't changed at all. He's hanging suspended in time, while experience and passing years put their marks on his team. Owen isn't here any more. Tosh is training her replacement. Gwen - well, best not to think about what happened to Gwen. Even the new, young ones are becoming inevitably older.

"I didn't think you'd come," Ianto says quietly, apparently to the city sleeping before them.

Jack doesn't answer in words. He only stretches out his hand so that he can link it with Ianto's, trying to say things through that grasp that he never could aloud.

Ianto's hand squeezes his, briefly. He leans forward and kisses Jack on the lips. There's no passion in it. It's sweeter than the desire they once shared, more communication than need. He breaks the kiss after a few seconds, smiling sadly.

"Goodbye, Jack." Ianto's hand leaves his and the Welshman walks away, never looking back.

Jack knows that this is the last time he'll see Ianto.
