Polls: The Street Test

Okay, I got into a small debate with a friend of mine about how talent (and hell, just sheer fondness) can affect your perception of attractiveness. I was firmly on the side that after you've been introduced to a person, their personality (or talent, whatever) can influence whether or not you find them attractive.

My gauge has always been, "If I ( Read more... )

Sorry, Kief, but it's your voice and the way you kick ass that makes me love you, not the way you look so much. Now, if his tats were on display and he were tackling a Christmas tree, I'd be all over him, LOL. Or if his pants were around his ankles, I'd definitely give him a second look! (You've seen those photos, right?)

Now Foxy and Josh ... oh yeah, rubbernecking time. ;) Same with Jensen. My god. He's just so pretty it hurts. Same with Ian.

YES! LOL. If it wasn't him, I'd probably be surprised, but you know it is him. Heh.

God, yes. He's basically the definition of pretty, I do believe.

Y'know, in real life I avoid the pretty boys. I think they must be conceited or I'd have to constantly be fending the other girls off, LOL.

Ultimately, I want someone who's funny and bright and who isn't constantly trying to impress me. Although I do have a physical type and Foxy pretty much fits that to a T.

Me too! I've said before that's he's pretty much my type of a perfect man. I'm not one for the pretty in real life (though, a Jensen Ackles, I'd make an exception for, I'm sure, heh) 'cause I really just like manly men.

Broad, tall, even a little chubby if so be it, and especially hairy. All full of Man!Smell. Just manly fucking men, dammit. Heee! ;)

To me, a wicked sense of humor makes the man so much more attractive to me.

Zach Braff and Dane Cook? Sexy as hell. :P

Jensen and Jared are funny too. So damn. That just kills me dead. ;)

Yes, indeed!

Michael Rosenbaum totally has this going on for him too.

I feel you on this one. This is absolutely spot on. Not 100% of the time, but a lot of the time yes. I have pretty much always fallen for the "uber talented" character actors. I'm still in love with Liev Schreiber. Yes, god. Sorry, what was I talking about?

Oh, gosh, ME TOO. I crush on John C. McGinley like mad, and he totally falls under that "uber talented" character actor category to me.

"Rode hard and put up wet."

I know it as "...and put away wet" and in my experience it refers to someone's condition and grooming/presentation as much as (or more than) their fundamental appearance.

If somebody's tired, beat up, dirty, ungroomed, sweaty, skanky... or sometimes if they look like a used-up lowlife.

But that person could be either ugly or beautiful and the expression could still apply.

YMMV and all that.

I've heard it that way too.

Exactly! That's how I feel about it too. I just heard someone refer to person that is less than attractive "rode hard and put away wet" when they were nothing of the sort. Unattractive, perhaps. But they in no way looked rough.

Heh, I was linked to this poll from oxoniensis' journal. Strangely, I'm quite reversed on this. There are more men that I'd notice on the street than there are ones that I'm actually attracted to. I guess because there's a huge difference between a guy being good-looking enough to be noticed, and actual attraction. I'm quite fussy about who I'm attracted to. And I guess a lot of the guys listed here whom I would find purely physically attractive at first blush turn out to not be my type for whatever reason. And I'm definitely attracted to talent, but I suppose I'm also affected a lot by perceived personality issues, or even a lack of talent. Thus making my first list a lot shorter than the second.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the comment, as I'm so very glad to see a totally different opinion on the subject.

I really should have included this option in the poll, but it just didn't occur to me.
