Yes, I knew about it. I haven't talked about it in my LJ because I think it's a dumb idea. For one, it's happening on Good Friday, which would be a slow day for posting anyway. Also, LJ isn't going to care if a bunch of people don't post/comment for one day. People have already paid their money, advertisers are still going to pay for the ads they have up/will put up. I just don't see any reason in doing it. Yeah, SUP screwed up. This isn't going to make them notice the users any more than spamming their posts in the official communities.

Well, and they've apologized, so now they're doing it just to show they have follow-through...

It makes me wonder if its driven by a desire to show solidarity, or just to see if ONE PERSON can slam a giant company with their angst...

Well, if nothing had been done about it (and really - the only thing that bothered me was the top interest issues), it'd be different.

But, the whole thing on not offering free access (I haven't read ALL the hoopla yet, so forgive me if I'm speaking outta my tushie)? The WORLD is no longer free. Around here - you can't take your dog to the dog park without a license - so walking your dog is now a charged experience. Getting into our metroparks now requires either a daily charge, or a annual charge - so using some GRASS is charged? Really?

I hate all the ads, I really do - but it's an option for me, since I'm not gonna spend cash to type a log when I could just do it on a piece of scratch paper and a sharpie...

Maybe I'm simplifying it...I dunno...

I didn't know about the strike but I did know that they no longer offer free accounts...well free of ads anyways.
It's a sticky situation though...I mean I can see how both sides are partially right...unfortunately...lj needs money in order to survive. So if people are not willing and/or able to pay they have to go to ads oh well. I am not by any means happy about it. But, will not writing anything for one whole day make any difference? Probably not...it's the lj equivalent of let's not all buy gas on such and such day to lower gas prices.
