"Nonsmokers not only live healthier, they live happier. Smoking correlates with higher rates of depression, chronic disabilities, and divorce (Doherty & Doherty 1998; Vita & others, 1998). Nondepressed teens who smoke suffer a quadrupled risk of developing depression (Goodman, 2000). Healthy living seems to add both years to life, and life to years ( Read more... )

OK. I don't smoke, but that last fact sorta bothers me.

Firstly, I'm glad you made an LJ post. They always are fun to read and brighten up my day!!!! Now that I'm done with that, I shall continue.

Smoking does not take 12 minutes off your life each time. It used to be like 3 minutes, then 5 minutes, now 12 minutes? I mean did they add more poison to each cigarette or something? How did they scientifically prove this? I DEMAND ANSWERS.

I don't really understand why it bothers you that other people smoke. It's their life, and while some people do regret it, I'm sure most people don't honestly care. Unless someone is smoking in your house, on your bed, or next to you too much that you are worried about second-hand smoke...I think you should just let them live their lives. Shorter though it may be.

I totally agree. I just hate to see people that I care about do something so disgusting. For example, my grandmother has horrible (like HORRIBLE) allergies and she can't even talk for five minutes without coughing up a lung. I mean does smoking really sound like a good call? I just like certain people (like my grandmother) a lot and don't want to see them die or get cancer later in life. I'd be sad :( .

I'm not trying to change anyone's minds, I was just posting.

I was just trying to stir up a debate really. Without you and Kyle around to cause some huge discussion to go down, I'm at a loss of what to do with myself.

I'm sorry about your granny. Tell her I said hello. You know, if you granny smokes that increases the chances of you smoking. I learned that from your post.

Hahaha I'll try to be more opinionated so we can get a nice debate going one of these days. I'm feeling pretty content (don't knock on wood because I just did) so I can't see it happening soon.

I am not sorry about her, she's dumb. But I still like her. I won't start smoking I promise. If you had seen me the one time I did, you'd laugh along with me because I can't do it (like at all) and I'm glad. Whenever I get smoke in my hair it takes about 20 hours to get the smell out, same thing with my clothes and I really can't stand to smell gross. So maybe my shallowness (if you can call smelling good a shallow trait) is a good thing?
