I can't believe break is almost over...

Feb 08, 2011 20:20

The hols are almost over here, and it sucks because I've got so much homework to do. There are a couple of things I got into over the break, though.

1. Superman - the animated series. Man, I remember watching this when I was in third or fourth grade? Re-watching it brings back nice memories. And that leads into...

2. Young Justice (Animated!)! OMG Robin~ and Aqualad~ and Kid Flash~ screw it, I like all of the characters! I've been keeping an eye on the Yj anon meme and it looks like it's going well! Hate that new episodes come out every week, but the fic tides me over.

3. One Direction (or, you know, wand erection) and Maiden. Truthfully (or as far as my memory will allow me to recall), the whole thing started when I friended go_hedgehog. It started with her HP/Inception fic, and then I went to check out her other fics and stumbled upon her 1D and Maiden ones. Never turning back. (this is also an author rec, incase you didn't know)

4. The Arthur/Merlin fic involving betas and Pendragon/Merlin

5. Movies:
  • The Social Network - haven't finished it yet b/c there were no Chinese subtitles, and thus my relatives were like 'wuh?', but I got into a lot of fic. >x< The TSN meme is nice, as are gdgdbaby's fics.
  • The King's Speech. A+, amazing, and should be watched.
  • A Cinderella Story - I don't care that it got panned by critics, I still like it :) Re-watched for like the 7th time.
  • Zwartboek (Black Book) - Dutch WWII film that only reminds me how much I hate war films. Not that it was a bad film, but that I don't like thinking about humanity's capacity for evil. And the fact that even those who are oppressed/treated badly are still able to treat their own people badly.
6. Paul Haggis v. Church of Scientology

7. ONTD discussions about rape culture.
  • "Rape culture is telling girls and women to be careful about what you wear, how you wear it, how you carry yourself, where you walk, when you walk there, with whom you walk, whom you trust, what you do, where you do it, with whom you do it, what you drink, how much you drink, whether you make eye contact, if you’re alone, if you’re with a stranger, if you’re in a group, if you’re in a group of strangers, if it’s dark, if the area is unfamiliar, if you’re carrying something, how you carry it, what kind of shoes you’re wearing in case you have to run, what kind of purse you carry, what jewelry you wear, what time it is, what street it is, what environment it is, how many people you sleep with, what kind of people you sleep with, who your friends are, to whom you give your number, who’s around when the delivery guy comes, to get an apartment where you can see who’s at the door before they can see you, to check before you open the door to the delivery guy, to own a dog or a dog-sound-making machine, to get a roommate, to take self-defense, to always be alert always pay attention always watch your back always be aware of your surroundings and never let your guard down for a moment lest you be sexually assaulted and if you are and didn’t follow all the rules it’s your fault.”
8. Sexual Assault Prevention Tips Guaranteed to Work!
  • Don't put drugs in people's drinks in order to control their behavior.
  • When you see someone walking by themselves, leave them alone!
  • If you pull over to help someone with car problems, remember not to assault them!
  • NEVER open an unlocked door or window uninvited.
  • If you are in an elevator and someone else gets in, DON'T ASSAULT THEM!
  • Remember, people go to laundry to do their laundry, do not attempt to molest someone who is alone in a laundry room.
  • USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM! If you are not able to stop yourself from assaulting people, ask a friend to stay with you while you are in public.
  • Always be honest with people! Don't pretend to be a caring friend in order to gain the trust of someone you want to assault. Consider telling them you plan to assault them. If you don't communicate your intentions, the other person may take that as a sign that you do not plan to rape them.
  • Don't forget: you can't have sex with someone unless they are awake!
  • Carry a whistle! If you are worried you might assault someone "on accident" you can hand it to the person you are with, so they can blow it if you do.
  • And, ALWAYS REMEMBER: if you didn't ask permission and then respect the answer the first time, you are committing a crime- no matter how "into it" others appear to be.
9. My new favorite TSN mark/eduardo fic wherein Eduardo becomes a potted plant and Mark must take care of him.
