Some of them are really gorgeous but I can see why they would be "adult" covers because they're not nearly as magic as the normal ones.
Maybe it's just a bias from growing up with them, but I still prefer the American covers.
Though when I was ten and hadn't seen anything but the American covers, someone brought a copy to class of The Philosopher's Stone that a UK relative had given them and everyone was so incredibly in awe of the difference.
I've never really seen the need for separate adult/kid covers. I mean, the book is still the same either way.
I grew up with the UK kids covers. I've only got Half Blood Prince in the adult cover, and it really bugs me that it doesn't match with the rest of the set :(
One day I'm going to invest in a new set; my copies of 1, 2, and 5 have pages falling out of them because they've been read that often.
