Some people have mentioned going home while they were drones, but I think others just turn...mindless. I don't know how long it lasts, but a few people have mentioned being droned for a week. You get droned whenever you disregard certain rules they've set: not attending school, not showing up to work, and the like. Considering Elizabeth didn't do anything that went against whatever tyrant rules over Mayfield, I think dronings are given out as reminders to behave, kind of like the weird events that supposedly happen once or twice every month.
I don't think the policemen or the milkmen are drones but I think it would be best to avoid them at all costs. I've been told they have a nasty habit of antagonizing, brainwashing, and murdering people.
