Ingalls Lake, WA, USA

The objective for me for this weekend was to see the wonder of our state - golden larches. Those are conifers that turn yellow and lose their needles in fall only to reacquire them in the spring time! I specifically browsed the trails for the word "larches" and came up with Ingalls Lake trail ( Read more... )

We went there in summer (which is August for the lake, before that it is under ice), and fishing for trout was fabulous! And there were some habituated goats that came really close for photos! I love this place, thank you for sharing!

We were really hopeful to see the goats as this area is so close to Enchantments, but didn't, unfortunately :(

Did you stay there overnight?.. Are there any side hikes to do once you reach the basin and camp there?..

We did not stay overnight, Andrei (my husband) doesn't like to sleep in a tent if he could help it (and Lake Ingalls is doable as a day hike). Regarding side trips - basically, there should be an option to go to a pass in the shoulder of Mt Stuart that leads to the valley of Lake Stuart (and there is a lake in the upper valley above Lake Stuart that some people praise as the most beautiful ever). I am not sure if there is a good trail to the pass (most probably not). It may also be inaccessible most of the year due to snow. Our goal was to fish (we both LOVE it), so we were not much into further exploration.

Fortune Mountain is an easy hike up from the basin and really nice (still easy to do in one day, instead of returning same way from the lake you can climb Fortune peak (and see other lake on the other side) and come back from there.

Awesome views !
What kind of hiking boots you wear now if I can ask ?

I'm a huge fan of Merrells - I have 2 pairs of them in fact :) But hiking boots are very individual and you really have to try them on in the store, walk the stairs and make sure they fit.

Also, the ones that I have are not hard ones, so you can't put crampons on them. Just an FYI.

I have Hi-Tec Men's Altitude IV Hiking Boot. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000RUHXDU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Bought them on Amazon and they fit perfectly. Made 20+ hikes this year with these boots, works like a charm !

I think those are alpine larches - golden larches grow in China...
Beautiful photos through the fog.
