Mono Lake

We have driven by this lake a couple of times on our way to and from the Mammoth resort, but we didn't bother stopping: "Just another lake", - shrugged we.

It's at the urging of juan_gandhi that I looked into what's so special about the lake. And as soon as I did, I felt so foolish for just driving past it! I found out that the Sierra Nevada mountain range

Солт Лэйк Сити (точнее Грейт Солт Лэйк) вроде тоже подобным образом образовался?

нет. здесь неправильно написано. great basin никогда не был "морем". он всегда был пустыней, хотя озёра раньше там вероятно были больше, но всегда солёные (насколько мы знаем геологическую историю).

great salt lake - артефакт совсем другого процесса - это остаток ледникового озера bonneville
