When I was little I remember being aware that each of the books of Narnia was an part-allegory of a Bible story. I have forgotten all but the most obvious of these.

Does anyone know what Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, and The Horse and His Boy ae part-allegories of?

Nothing in particular, if you ask me. Lewis wasn't deliberately setting out to create allegories in each volume. In fact, he flat-out denied Narnia-as-allegory when asked about it; he instead called it "supposition" (as in, "suppose there was a land called Narnia... what might its own fall and redemption look like?"). The difference may be slight in most eyes, but it was significant in Lewis's.

Hi - hope you don't mind my jumping in, even though I'm repeating the others! These aren't straight allegories, but Planet Narnia: the Seven Heavens of C.S. Lewis is a fascinating book, and well worth reading. The author points out that, though they aren't straight allegories, each book has a particular theme and set of images. Dawn Treader for example, is connected to water because it is "ruled" by Venus, and it has a baptism in it. Really fascinating stuff.
