I've been reading the book Nickle and Dimed for a class. Awesome book. I'm preparing for my service-learning, which is going to be awesome- My grandmother connected me to a woman from her church, and together we are organizing a program to get lunches to kids in the summer who recieve subsidized lunches during the school year ( Read more... )

Mrs. Isabelle was an incredibly good woman. I think my aunt told me that she retired. I am due to talk to my aunt soon, do you want me to ask if she has or could get Mrs. Isabelle's number for you?
Barkhamsted was, I think, a relatively good place to grow up. Thinking of it reminds me of the fun you and I used to have, even when beating each other senseless at 5 years old!

It's funny that you're reading Nickel and Dimed, because I just started re-reading that book for the third time! I love her writing style, and how she unfolds her story.

I've been wanting to read that book. I wish I had more free time to read leisure books because there are so many really good ones out there. I have at least 3 or 4 that I have, but don't have time to read.

Completely different arena, but "Slut" is a really good book. I forgot the author's name, but it's all about the negative labeling of women, etc. I just bought "Catfight" by the same author, which is about the sub-culture among teenage girls...

PS - I drove by your car while I was in Rutland earlier :)

If not, you guys can come over for the ASB Pasta Dinner ;) It's a good cause and I'd like to go, but everyone deserted me this weekend...

Or you can just come over and hang out anyway.

I LOVED Mrs. Isabelle. I just loved Barkhamsted Elementary. Ive done alot of thinking lately about my childhood, and I miss it (god I feel like Im getting old) and ya know, as much as I complain about Barkhamsted or connecticut in general, we had it made.

I was thinking about correcting that, too, but I usually resist.

As I did not live in Barkhamsted I cannot relate exactly, but there was a woman who took my milk money in 1st and 2nd grade who always used to spot me money and give me a note when I forgot mine. I should thank her for my strong bones... hoping that I don't get osteoporosis, that is. :-P

Ok, you two! Sorry!! What's sad is that i wrote it right, looked at it, and then changed it. Not sure why.
