Thank you so much for this calm, deep story. It was so hard to 'see' Reid fade away knowing Luke wouldn't survive without him.
This ismy favorite part showing Reid's devotion and infinite love for Luke:

"Another kiss later, Reid laid his hand on his husband’s shoulder, ran his hand through gray locks of hair, and whispered, “Fifty years ago today, you called my office for the first time.” He waited a heartbeat before adding, “Best day of my life.”

I like to think that Reid can be awkwardly romantic, and overtly romantic when the mood strikes. :)

I had to read this one all in one go, it's so beautifully written. Well done. Now it did take me a while as I had to keep reaching for tissues. You had me crying, some sad tears, but mostly happy ones.

I loved the quotes interspersed throughout a story with a real life lesson. I truly loved the notes in the margins between Luke and Reid. You wrote them both so well. The way you conveyed the love between them in these little asides was really remarkably done. The love they shared with one another and those that meant something to them was truly inspirational.

The last little note broke my heart and at the same time lifted my spirit. A wonderful story. I'm keeping it! Thank you for sharing it.

I've been overwhelmed with the response to this story. I'm so glad you liked it. The comments back and forth in the margin came about because I started wondering how Reid would respond to Luke's version of their life together. Then I imagined that after time it became a game between them.

Wow, I can't put into words how much I love this story. It was perfect. All the different emotions it brought out in me. I cried. I laughed. But mostly it made me smile. I can just see their lives turning out this way.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

I just wanted to add that this was my favorite part. It described them perfectly!

"Yes, generations before had molded and shaped Reid and Luke. But those two had endured, grown, and reshaped themselves. It made them unique and durable. Together, they had stood the test of time, and against all odds. They had repeatedly defied expectations - societal and familial - to become something more than just Luke or just Reid. They’d become Luke and Reid, as if spoken together in a single breath made them infinitely more."

Thank you for your wonderful comments. This was actually one of my favorite parts of the story, as well. I think I rewrote it half a dozen times. :)

Just beautiful! I really didn't know what to expect from this one, but it really surprised and delighted me. Wonderfully emotional and beautifully written. Nice touch as well to give Reid a condition affecting the brain. Great job!

I figure he's approaching the century mark - and Reid would see the irony in slowly succumbing to dementia. It seemed appropriate.

So beautiful, so sad yet also inspiring. It made me cry (actually quite a lot) but I loved what Kyle learned through all of this. Your quotes were perfect and the Reid and Luke notes made me smile. The best part was seeing how their love survived through everything. I'd never thought about the fact that the 15 (or so) years age difference would be more noticeable near the end of their lives...that kind of breaks my heart just thinking about it. You've shown so well though how much they truly love each other.

This is one of those stories that I am actually taking something more from...it's not just about the boys we love but something that makes you look at things in your own life with the people you love.

Thank you for this wonderful story. I'll be grabbing the pdf version of this too.

I like to think that even in soap worlds, the desire to create something that carries on is important. And I can see both Reid and Luke wanting to create that together.
