I have no idea how I've been so out of the loop, but I didn't find out until this evening at dinner about Steve Irwin dying.  And when I did, it had already become something of a joke.

Now, I'm able to see the reality in a situation as much as the next person.  The man did not always make smart decisions.  Well, duh.  He was human.  I sure as hell ( Read more... )

i sincerely hope that steve irwin did what he did because he had a passion for it... i never saw his show, but if he was promoting an appreciation for the power and ability of these animals, well, i guess that's okay if you have to film it.
if that's the case, then i feel sure he knew that everytime he put himself in a situation with an unpredictable animal he was risking death. so it was always his choice. considering his family, maybe not the best choice. but i agree - finding humor at the expense of someone else's pain is so sickeningly pervasive in our society. it's so hard to see any genuine human compassion sometimes.

Mom's here until Sunday morning (at 7:30 a.m....good god). Calling during the day Sunday works, but you have to call me because I'm an idiot. I must have thrown away all your numbers except the one that didn't work, and that doesn't work!
