I haven't been to CSSSA myself but I've been doing quite a lot of research for a few months about application and all, so I think I can help you with your questions. 1. No it doesn't have to be in color, and it doesn't hurt for it to be in pencil. Just do your best on it! 2. Yes, the application doesn't restrict that. 3. Yes, it can. 4. I'm very sure you do. Just make sure that your application reaches them in the first place (you'll know it reaches them if they send back a postcard; my mother has been calling CSSSA for questions as well, so that's how I know that.)
i also suspect (i went for creative writing) that they look for promise and potential as much as existing talent and expertise. don't worry. do your best and apply. if you get in and go, it will be awesome, and if you don't, don't be discouraged!
