Has anyone here ever used to student health center for anything? I'm still covered by my parents health insurance, but because they live 400 miles away, and its an HMO, it would take some time to find a doctor, and I want to get a few things checked when classes start again. How difficult is it to get an appointment, how bad are the waits, is it ( Read more... )

it's not hard to get an appointment, you can generally walk in and be seen.

the waits are general doctors office waits. they arent too long, and if they arent too busy, the wait isnt that bad.

everytime i've been in there it hasnt really been that crowded. i would just make an appointment if you're worried about it.

the staff are really nice.

I had a pleasant experience there. I went during a lunch break because I wasn't feeling well, and though they are unfortunately closed during lunch time, as soon as 1PM rolled around I was seen. It was never crowded in the hour I waited, there were at max two or three people in the waiting area at one time. The staff were all VERY nice, and they leave out a bunch of health food in the wait area for those who aren't feeling well.

just walk in and see if they can take you, they usually can esp. if it's for something pertinent. if you just need an exam it might take longer/you might have to make an appt cuz it's not really important.
i went and got a strep swab when i was sick with a really sore throat and huge tonsils. i think it was totally free too...
the staff are v. nice :)
