Hey guys! I'm an accepted Illustration major (transfer student; going in as a junior) for Fall 2009, and I just got my housing offer in the mail yesterday
( Read more... )
i lived in both the singles and doubles, as just a resident and as an RA, so i guess i kinda have this response down, haha.
the doubles are better on your wallet in the sense that you pay every other month, the singles have to pay every month (as of 06, maybe it's changed). It's a bigger room, but of course you do have to share with one other person, so your privacy is lacking. HOWEVER, you just might get lucky, as i did, and get a roommate whose schedule is opposite yours, and rarely stays in the dorm on the weekends, so it's just like having your own room.
the singles are more expensive, maybe about $1500 more, but you do get your privacy, and the room is small.
sometimes there are openings in single occupancy, but if you've already been offered a space whether its single or double, TAKE IT, because they go straight to the wait list to fill empty spaces.
just keep checking with the housing office to see what you can do.
Thanks for the advice; my mother and I both think that sending my application back ASAP is just the best possible thing to do for now. I'll definitely keep bugging the housing office, lol. :D
definitely...i've worked in that housing office before and if there's one thing that i know, is that they seldom go back on their word, if there's a deadline, they stick to it, and treat everyone's situation the same.
Other apartments around campus you should try to look into:
Nutwood East- Fairly nice grounds, management has an uptight reputation, but that might work well for you if you want to live in a non-party environment where quiet hours are enforced.
University Crossing- Formerly known as Nutwood West- newly renovated and NICE. Really nice place. A little more expensive, haven't heard much about the management.
The Waterton- the complex right next to mine! Also newly renovated and very posh. Again, more pricey.
El Doratos- the day I toured this complex, it was very loud and I didn't really like the vibe, but I have to say, the apartments themselves have the most amazing layout possible. Each bedroom has it's own HALLWAY off the living room, which includes the bedroom itself, a walk-in closet, and a private bathroom. The kitchen is roomy. And as I recall, the price is reasonable. This place would be a bit of a walk from CSUF, but still doable, and should be an easy bike ride.
The Camdens- HUGE complex. Nice place, little more expensive, &

I'm SO glad you posted all that. It helps to have someone who has had experience in the whole housing/ apt dept. I was trying to find off campus housing just in case I didn't get a room on campus (I sent in my housing app last fall). I like the idea of the on campus housing since it gives it the whole "I'm away at college" feeling with roommates and such but living in my own apt sounded appealing too (preferably if they allowed dogs :]) but I'm just waiting to see.
'Ello fellow nerd Illustration major (although actually I have to wait a semester to be officially declared, SHHH)! Haha, I got to meet a few of them, and they seemed totally nice. :D I'm super excited.
The apartment complex to live at is Villa Santa Fe. At first glance it doesnt look as nice as some of the other places around there. But I can tell you its totally one of the better places around. My first year i lived at Haver Hill, with 3 room mates, every one of our cars got broken into at least once. Street parking sucked, no central air for the hot days the only plus side was a washer and dryer in the apartment

I'm going in as a junior, too!
I'm a business major and I also do not want the "PARTY PARTY PARTY" room mates.
Did you just get put in a double, you couldn't choose?
uh-oh.
Well if I'm in a double maybe we can put each others names down. I'm assuming your girl ;)
