Hunchun, China: Week 7, Pt 1 (However it is, is how it should be.)

There is a Chinese saying has been passed down from my great-grandmother, to my grandmother, to my mother, to me. "Zen me lai, jiu zhen me shi." Roughly translated, it means, "However it is, is how it should be."

I think people who learn this early on are very fortunate. "Life is what happens while we're busy making other plans." It's what makes all of our stories so fascinating, I think. But I'm a firm believer that it all works out the way it's supposed to, comically or tragically, with bits of joy and sorrow along the way for each of us.
