I get off the bus at 11pm yesterday, a long day almost drawn to a close.  I got into the office early, and left late. There is much to be done, and as the first of the month springs its sweaty, smoggy head into my face, I feel the toothy bite of haste nipping at my heels. Joni Mitchell, who I suppose is best known for her music, thinks of herself as a painter. She was discussing the differences between performance art and art--that--once completed, is finished...she described, once, that when people, at concerts, would constantly shout out to her, over and over, to "sing 'Carey,'" or "sing 'Free Man in Paris," that: "a painter paints a painting, but no one ever said to Van Gogh, "paint us Starry Night again!"

I think it's much the same with dance. I suppose it's part of the appeal--it's the ephemeral and fleeting nature of a performance that makes it so special.
