Heres my proposal, that we cut welfare spending and increase military pay. If we increase military pay this one makes the military a more viable option of underpriviledged citizens and two the military provides job training that translates very well into civilian workforce. This also gets people off the street and provides the discipline that most ( Read more... )

I think they should just cut welfare spending, and take that money and spend it on....

nothing. They shouldn't be stealing money from those who "do", and reinforcing the thieving moochery of those who "do not." Anyway, its not the governments money in the first place. Why do they have to "spend" it? Its the money of those ingenius people who make up our country. Give it back to them. They are the only ones who can do anything worth while with it. Nobody else has shown the ability to understand money's value.

How many welfare recipients have made the world a better place? By that same token, how many Thomas Edisons, John Rockefellers, or Henry Fords have made the world a better place?

Love and tears can give a man a fish for one day. Greed and ingenuity can teach all men to fish forever.

No, dont get me wrong. Unfortunate events can occur at anytime. And, I can't expect everyone to be prepared for the unexpected.

However, there is no reason why people should automatically assume that:
1. The government has a responsibility to make sure people have jobs/homes.
2. Government has deep pockets, and therefore should share the wealth.
3. Its the governments money.
4. The successful members of society should be forced into a sick invisionment of Robin Hood meets Karl Marx style "redistribution" of wealth.

I wouldn't say I am conservative. Alot of conservative social issues don't concern me either way. I am a capitalist.

thats a good idea (jason) the only problem is that it forces people to go into the military just b/c of their class. this is already a bit of a problem as is, i mean, look at all our friends from high school.

did you stay up all night? haha. looks like you were quite busy.

Cass makes a very good point. It seems to me that there is not much difference between that and buying your way out of the draft. Not to mention a huge percentage of the people on welfare are children and women with children. Its not really an option for them to join the millitary. Maybe Im idealistic about peoples motives but I truly dont think that the majority of people on welfare think they are owed something. There will always be people screwing the system. That doesnt mean the system is fatally flawed.
