It's kinda funny how things can change over time. Looking back over my LJ, there was a time when I would post daily, sometimes multiple times a day. I last posted some time in July. That said ,so much has changed over the last two years, that it seems like I'm living a completely different life.
For a start, I'm getting married in six weeks. That kinda crept up. Been meeting with priestly types of all stripes a fair bit, doing what I can to get the 'God' bits pulled from my half of the service - not happening. Still, it's gods house, so it pays to be nice to the host (or Lord of Hosts, whatever the case might be!) Juggling guest lists and accomodating family members has been a pain. We didn't get to invite all the people we wanted to because we have to have various uncles and aunts and all that crap. More evening invites to our friends though. Of course, the inevitable issue of inter-friend politics has made for some difficult decisions too...
Teaching. Bloody hell. Talk about changing your way of life completely. I do five, fifty minute presentations every day. I have 10 class sets and have to mark books every three weeks. Some kids are completely awesome, some are horrible. In a good lesson you can have such awesome discussions with formative minds that you feel like you're really accomplishing something. Some lessons it feels like surviving for fifty minutes in a hail of burning shit. This year I have more of the former - lots of good sets. It's really encouraging when a class full of kids cheers when they realise you're teaching them. Massive ego boost! This year I'm a chemistry teacher for year 10, which means I get to blow stuff up and use lots of acids. I also got a promotion - Co-ordinator of Citizzenship and PHSE - which has also been described as 'a poisoned chalice'. Great... Like herding cats. Greased cats.
LARP. I didn't do much LARP this year. I did however win CP. My character had a 7 year run. During that time, I went from being the bookkeeper to a compromise group to the 3IC and head of magic to a faction. It was an awesome journey, albeit with a lot bumps along the way, that culminated at Renewal '07. We closed down a major plot arc and at the end of it, I gave up my character to become Principality of Magic, transcending mere Godhead in order to become the manifestation of a fundamental principle of the Universe. It was awesome, especially the bit where the voice of the Ritual Circle said "I bow to you... Master." The best end a character could have. Of course, now I have a few hundred pounds worth of fun fur fatsuit that I can't really use again...
That's been it really. Everything is pretty slow on other fronts. I haven't been able to write much due to time/brain pressure, I stopped exercising and haven't motivated myself enough to start again. We still haven't moved to our new flat, although hopefully that should happen within the next few weeks. Played a lot of Guild Wars, done a spot of gaming on Mondays and that's me.
I'll try to stay on top of posting more often, but with a million things to do, I either need to develop superpowers or work on prioritising a bit better...
