I've finally bought myself a new computer, giving up on getting something without windows to buy an Eee PC 1005P. The Windows 7 license was clearly unacceptable, so I've destroyed it and installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition. They've done an impressive job, smooth trouble-free install, and a clean usable interface. Ubuntu, you say? You weren't tempted to go for MeeGo instead? At first glace, it looks quite promising.

It's specifically designed for low power devices like phones and netbooks, where the Ubuntu netbook edition is a cut down desktop distribution, which will inevitably result in compromises in unexpected places. MeeGo includes a desktop and a set of apps that are specifically designed to work with less screen real estate than you'd find on a desktop PC.

Plus from an ethical perspective, I like the commitment to free software, which Canonical are straying further from by the day.
