Help finding a new phone?

Jan 25, 2009 10:37

So I've become fed up with my awful phone. I thought I could make it through the 2-year contract with T-Mobile (with whom I'm satisfied as a carrier) and get rid of my piece-of-crap Nokia Music XPress, but I don't think I can make it another 8 months. It's a bad music player, has horrible battery life, poor call quality, bad ergonomics... ( Read more... )

I don't have T-Mobile, so I can't help there, and I've come to really prefer sliders to clamshells. But I was unhappy with my crappy old Nokia, too - its only perk was that it had an extremely strong signal/receiver and got better reception than most other phones on the network ( ... )

I'm not dead-set against slider phones, but my current one is a slider and the ergonomics of it drive me crazy. You can't hold it without putting a finger on or near the antenna, and it doesn't satisfyingly wrap around your head like a clamshell. The better ones will put the mic on the bottom part of the slider, which essentially mimics the ergonomics of the candy-bar design. So it's not a big deal, but I find myself wishing for a flip or candy-bar design, which the best sliders are almost as good as ( ... )

I wholeheartedly agree with your phone desires. I understand that part, or most, of the future of phones is probably in the smart phone direction, but for now it would be really nice to have a phone that's merely great to perfect at being a phone.

I'm pretty happy with my LG UX300, which is a flip phone, but I see that T-Mobile doesn't appear to carry LG phones.

You're welcome in advance for how helpful this all is.

I'm thinking my next round of scouring will include unlockable phones. This is sort of problem, though, as they don't have the "fave 5" feature that's a part of our calling plan. It requires software support. Bleh. Otherwise I would just switch back to my old phone--bland but reliable. We were forced to buy new phones because of fave 5.

I have T-Mobile as well, since about 2003, and am still satisfied with them. I've been using a Samsung flip phone since about 2005 that my sister passed on to me when she switched carriers, and I really like it. It was really awesome for me when I got it for its color (color!) screen, but it doesn't have a camera or receive picture messages (have to go view online when I get the text). It also seems I can't turn off the now-annoying noise it makes when you open or close it. Also, opening it automatically answers the call -- can't click "ignore" or anything. However, the battery life is still good and it gets great reception if you're not in the middle of nowhere (i.e., Groton, MA ( ... )

But I often find myself in Groton! Oh no!

I have a Samsung flip phone and it's awesome. The only bad part is that it also has an mp3 player that sucks. I like my phone though. It's my second Samsung and I would buy another.
