Dude. That's not right. If you need a hand with anything, (obviously) don't hesitate to ask. And, remember, when it comes to pets, we get so emotionally attached that sometimes we forget that we need to do whatever is best for them (Note: I know nothing about weasles, other then the ones in cartoons like to wear robber's masks, so I would have no clue what the best option is). I know that I wouldn't know what to do if something happened to my dog. (Speaking of which, this is making me depressed. I think I need to go and pet the dog.)
I appreiate the offer Greg, but unless you want to toss me $500 or more for her medical treatments then I don't think there is anything you can do to help but be supportive.
I'm bringing Ugly into the shop today as well. She's lost about 5lbs in a very short amount of time, has been vomitting intermittently, and seems completely uninterested in food and water. It doesn't look good =( I brought her for labs about a month ago, which came back "normal", but in medical terms that really just means "unremarkable". We'll see.
See that's the thing, she isn't acting any different except that she is lethargic. She is responsive to us, has an appetite, drinks plenty of water...she just sleeps alot and looks really thin. The vet pointed out that she is kind of a pale yellow color instead of the normal pinkish, which is where the jaundice comes in. So for now I am just giving her all this stuff the doc gave me and hoping for the best.
try giving her "Duck Soup" ontop of the nutrical to get her weight back up, the recipie can be found online and marshals makes a premade powder form. did they bother feeling her adrenal glands? unfortunatly that in itself is also VERY common in ferrets (specially marshals bred) how old is she?
i know how rough it is cost wise, there are veterinary "credit cards" that would provide you with a payment plan if you wanted to try it, but with such low chances i dont know if its worth it (fuzzutts dont recover very well from surgery) id try the duck soup, nutrical and lots of love method id also add (if she will eat it) fresh chicken either grilled or even RAW chicken wings. see if she perks up...if she doesnt seem to be in any pain/suffering id just give her the best life possible for now. if however she seems to be completly missing her way of life (gets nippy or doesnt want to come see) then i think it would be 'that time'
Honestly I can't afford to get her anything else. I don't have enough to pay the rent as it is. I am just doing the best I can with what I have. She is about 6 or so, which I know is pretty old for a ferret (they usually live about 7 or 8 years). When I got her she was about 4 or 5 and I have had her just over 2 1/2 years.
The last thing I need right now is a credit card. Even for something like this I can't bring myself to get more in debt then I already am. I can barely breathe I am so deep in it. I can try the chicken though. It's not like we don't eat that ourselves. Thanks.
Good luck with Squeeker, Matt. It's really hard to watch a pet in decline. Uglycat came back from the vet with the news of a shot kidney (but like humans, cats can live with one, provided it's in good shape). We'll get the lab results today that will determine the condition of her other kidney. Even tho she's lost so much weight, the vet really wants us to try to keep her at the weight she is now (a healthy 11.5 lbs). She is on a renal formula cat food, and a really ucky looking antibiotic "until it's all gone". Other than that, she seems to be in good spirits. She actually used the litter box last night (she was apparently backed up too =(
