I just discovered that one of my favorite philosophers was born today in 1872.

Heh. I love hearing "the world is going to hell in a handbasket" quotes from the past. It makes me hopeful that the world isn't as incredibly screwed as it sometimes feels.

Yeah. It makes it difficult to analyze certain problems, though. Like, it seems to me that we have a lot of evidence for an energy crises coming up. But, I hesitate to conclude that it will wipe us out, since so many people have incorrectly thought so before.

Still, I would hate for there to be a real impending apocalypse, and ignore it.
