SERIOUS POLL

SO! Guys, I gots a conundrum.

The Final Fantasy Tactics remake comes out this month. Like, next week, IIRC. It is essentially the same as the original game, only with added cutscenes, voice acting, extra playable characters, new stages, and a completely re-translated script. The script is the part I'm most excited about since the original was ( Read more... )

1) Wait for the next little kid walking in a gamestop to trade his stuff in and offer him about x number of dollars instead of the twenty the clerk will hand him. Don't go over 50.

2) Emulators. But you heard that not from me.

3) Do without? I know it has to be an absolute headache to run a popular Square canon as there are at least half a dozen remakes and spinoffs to all their major FF successes save, like, VIII. And I actually don't think anyone will hold it against you for saying "Okay nevermind this is the voice I'm sticking with." At least, I wouldn't. (I imagine you're also using some stuff picked up in the sourcebooks/released CDs and Ultimania guide? I don't think you can get anymore canon if you are--anything further tends to be redressing kinda).

4. I'm going to go against a grain and say don't buy a PSP unless you, like, will absolutely die without this game. I'm not a big spender and I'm really not a fan of sinking the better of $100 into hardware that will...essentially be a paperweight on my desk. If there's ( ... )

Personally, I'd go with whatever scripts/videos you can find online. The console itself can be bought for around $130, true, but if I remember correctly you still have to go out and buy a memory stick if you want to save your game, which can be another...what, twenty for a good one? And then the game itself is forty, so it'd be near two hundred dollars for the sake of one game.

(This is the only reason I have not bought a PSP so I can play the shiny new FFT, myself. XD)

Generally people in CFUD are cool with characters being based on fan translations. We have a lot of canons that are originally in Japanese, with players reading and playing from an unofficial translation, even though the same canon is available in an official English. Granted, for ongoing canons the English would be lagging, but! People are pretty understanding, I think, and I think you can get by with just keeping an active eye out for FFT goodies.

I have a PSP sitting around that I've NEVER USED. Now I AM excited for the FFT remake, but I seriously have a fat stack of games that I haven't finished playing or replaying and I wouldn't get around to it for a while.

I'd be happy to lend it to you, so long as I eventually got it back so that I may also enjoy the bounty of Tactics. The only caveat is this: You'll have to buy a charger for it.

Ooooh~ wow, that's quite an offer. I'm liking Haru's idea of using the PSP emulator and hoping that the game'll be ripped within the first couple weeks, but I will keep this in mind if that doesn't work out. ♥

Wait until X-mas to ask for one seems good to me. XDb Or go with the emulators, which is probably an even better plan, since you don't actually want a PSP. My advice to wait until X-mas to ask for one may be biased by the fact that I really just want the Disgaea portable. XDb But yeah. Don't buy a >$100 system you don't want just so you can play a character in camp better. ^_~
