The Final Fantasy Tactics remake comes out this month. Like, next week, IIRC. It is essentially the same as the original game, only with added cutscenes, voice acting, extra playable characters, new stages, and a completely re-translated script. 3) Do without? I know it has to be an absolute headache to run a popular Square canon as there are at least half a dozen remakes and spinoffs to all their major FF successes save, like, VIII. And I actually don't think anyone will hold it against you for saying "Okay nevermind this is the voice I'm sticking with." At least, I wouldn't. (I imagine you're also using some stuff picked up in the sourcebooks/released CDs and Ultimania guide? I don't think you can get anymore canon if you are--anything further tends to be redressing kinda).
4. I'm going to go against a grain and say don't buy a PSP unless you, like, will absolutely die without this game. I'm not a big spender and I'm really not a fan of sinking the better of $100 into hardware that will...essentially be a paperweight on my desk. If there's ( ... )

(This is the only reason I have not bought a PSP so I can play the shiny new FFT, myself. XD)
Generally people in CFUD are cool with characters being based on fan translations. We have a lot of canons that are originally in Japanese, with players reading and playing from an unofficial translation, even though the same canon is available in an official English. Granted, for ongoing canons the English would be lagging, but! People are pretty understanding, I think, and I think you can get by with just keeping an active eye out for FFT goodies.

I'd be happy to lend it to you, so long as I eventually got it back so that I may also enjoy the bounty of Tactics. The only caveat is this: You'll have to buy a charger for it.
