Question about safety of the area...

I am a senior at Catholic, and while I wouldn't call the area very safe, I also wouldn't call it REALLY unsafe. We do have some crime around campus, but it has cleaned up over the years, and isn't anywhere as bad as people make it sound. I live on campus, but have a number of friends who live off campus, and they don't seem to have any problems. There is a lot of hype about crime on campus, but when you actually ask people "What have you had problems with" you generally get "Well, a friend of a friend once had this problem two years ago..."The metro is fine, I have never had an issue with that. Going out into Brookland is when you would need to have come common sense, but I have never found it a problem, and a number of the people I know who had issues were wandering drunk and alone in the middle of the night. I am sure you can get crime info from the Department of Public Safety, and I know last year, we were rated the safest of the large college and university campuses in the city
