Oh, if you ever have the inclination to check out the lesbian side of things, you should look at Yoshiya Nobuko's wildly popular novels for young women from the 1920s. They're really interesting stories about school girls in love. (Also, I happen to know two of the main scholars on this author, one of whom is my advisor.)
