I wonder whether it's a question of genetics or upbringing that makes a person identify with their ethnicity. I wasn't raised in any particular way, with any particular traditions, but I definitely feel one dominant cultural contact. I've only been once, but the sights and sounds of Scotland and its culture sets me on fire. Always have. Bagpipes? ( Read more... )

Having seen you down a huge glass of beer and dance around many a fire with many a drum circle, I'm not sure you're missing out on the whole German or Cherokee thing, either. They all love their green hills, Scotland just has such a strange sound about its music. I'm pretty sure it takes a Scotsman to appreciate a bagpipe, and that could totally be inner ear construction or something. I love the bagpipe just cause it's a brilliant solution to the odd problem of how can I keep playing a wind instrument even though I have to breathe? Circular breathing? F-that. Also, I've invented the pipe, what do I do if nobody wants to play harmony with me? Play two pipes with my feet? No way.
