Darry's back rested against a palm tree, her legs brought up close to her chest. A boy was lying lazily beside her. She had warned him that he was going to get a ton of sand stuck in his hair, but Ikuto just brushed it off and commented that "it was more comfortable." He had a point though-- it did look like a nice way to relax, but she rather not have to deal with Utau if she caught them lying next to each other; that was one argument Darry would avoid if she could help it.
So instead, the pink-haired girl sat at least a foot away from Ikuto, her full attention on the horizon that stretched out before them. Every now and then, she'd find herself glancing at her companion's sleeping face, a frown tugging at her own. When she ran into him earlier, he was whining about how heartless Amu could be before suddenly asking her out on a date. Although the girl knew that he only said it because he wanted to see her frantically look around in case his psychotic sister heard, her face still slightly flushed. He was so strange. Before she even had a chance to reject his offer, he pulled her away to their current location.
And promptly fell asleep. Some date, the girl mused to herself, wiping away the sand that blew onto her arms. The sky was beginning to darken, and it looked as if it was going to rain soon; she knew that Yoko was probably wondering where she was. Giving Ikuto one last look, she used the ground to push herself up. "Sorry, I have to go."
"Hey," a voice mumbled. "Do you think anything is going to change when you go back to your world?"
She paused, turning to look down at what she thought was a sleeping figure. "Maybe," she shrugged. "I think we all learned things here that we would have never experienced back home."
Ikuto's eyes opened, and the look he gave her was along the lines of Duh, I knew that already. She was about to storm off when he spoke again. "Are you going to miss anyone?"
"My frie--" She couldn't finish her sentence. The face of a brown-haired boy filled her mind, and she had to shake away the vision. The fact that Ikuto had a smirk on his face as if he knew what she was thinking about made Darry twitch slightly; she knew that she shouldn't have mentioned Renton to him.
Crossing her arms over her chest, she glared down at him. "Look, I really appreciate it that you wanted to spend your day with me, but I'm not staying if all you want to do is make fun of me. You know that I don't like him like that, plus he has Eureka and--"
The look he gave her made her forget anything she was planning on saying. Her chest tightened for a second, and she felt as if she was holding her breath. Ikuto sat up, and flashed her that know-it-all smirk that Darry was so used to. "Don't you hate it when there's someone else?"
Without thinking, she laid down next to him. They watched the gray skies swallow the world in silence.
