Theme B: #3 - Charity

Eiri Yuki was not known for having charitable qualities. The public knew him for his womanizing, his cool and collected attitude, his silver tongue…but he didn’t exactly go around donating money or visiting orphans. Others would never know, but in the novelist’s mind, he had already done enough charity work to last him a long time. He had let Shuichi Shindou move in with him.

Taking in the hyperactive singer had been a reluctant decision. He regretted it every time he heard a loud crash from the bedroom or an explosion from the kitchen, followed by the not-quite-so-reassuring exclamation of “I’m okay!” (He especially regretted it when he discovered the guest room walls painted a painful color of orange and covered with inane music and movie posters.)

But no matter how infuriating his live-in annoyance proved to be, he would not take back his choice. The way he saw it, he was doing the rest of the world a favor by being the one burdened with Shuichi. And, much to his dismay, he found there were some days when he didn’t mind it so much. Like when Shuichi would sprawl out on his stomach on the study floor and write lyrics while Eiri worked on his latest novel. Or when Shuichi would come home from work, greet him with an exhausted “Tadaima”, and fall asleep in his lap.

Shuichi would often inform the novelist, usually after a particularly gentle bout of lovemaking, that he would stay with him forever. And though Eiri never told him, he would willingly allow him to do so. That way, when it came to doing charitable deeds, he would be set for life.

Theme B: #6 - Temperance

“Get me a beer, brat.”

It’s a common enough request. But on this night, it gets a not-quite-so-common answer.

“No.”

Eiri raises an eyebrow, turns his head from his laptop to look at the singer on the wooden chair beside him.

“Why not?”

“You can get it yourself. I refuse to play a part in your alcohol-induced doom.”

The novelist just knows he’s going to regret getting into this.

“What are you talking about?”

Shuichi looks at him, frowning and eyes slightly narrowed. Eiri thinks it makes him look insane.

“You drink like a fish, Yuki! Don’t you know that you can die from that?”

“Oh, good grief…” Eiri rolls his eyes and returns to his laptop.

“Yuki! Do you not care about your health at all?”

Eiri scoffs and presses his fingers down harder on the keyboard, attempting to drown out Shuichi’s voice. A few moments of silence pass, and then he hears it - a sniffle. Eiri groans inwardly; Shuichi’s crying drives him crazy.

“Stop it.”

“I just don’t want you to die, Yuki!” He wails, sounding pitiful.

“I’m not dying!” Eiri sighs in frustration and stops typing. “Dammit… Look, fine, if you make me some coffee, I’ll drink that instead.”

In an instant, Shuichi’s lips are pressed against his cheek in a quick kiss. He watches the singer use his socks to slide down the hallway, in the direction of the kitchen. He rolls his eyes, but takes a moment to think before he gets back to writing. He decides that, maybe, he’ll try to cut down on the beer. Or, at least, he’ll consider it. After all, he realizes as he smiles thinly, he isn’t just living for himself anymore.

Title: Giving In
Fandom: Gravitation
Pairing: Eiri x Shuichi
Rating: PG
Warning: None.

Theme B: #7 - Prudence

They made the decision together, not long after Eiri outed them on television. It wasn’t that unusual to see celebrity couples together, so they wouldn’t try to avoid each other completely. But they would try to be discreet. No holding hands during press conferences, no making out on park benches. They could never know when a camera was around, so they had to be cautious.

“It’s not because we’re ashamed,” Eiri said, and Shuichi nodded, his pink hair tickling lightly under the novelist’s chin. Shuichi cuddled himself closer to his lover, biting his lip as he watched the television screen. He had seen gay protestors before, but he had never thought he would ever see gay protestors protesting him.

“It’s not because it’s wrong,” he added, more for himself than for Eiri. Eiri nodded and stroked his hair lightly. Shuichi was reluctant to agree to the decision. He loved Eiri and didn’t care who knew it; he hated giving in to society. Eiri hated having to do it too, but he hated seeing Shuichi’s reaction when someone said something hateful about him, or about both of them, even more.

Theme B: #5 - Justice

"I don’t deserve you."
"Of course you do…"

Shuichi kisses the juncture where neck meets jaw, slides his fingers down the expanse of naked chest. His eyelids close as a hand touches the back of his neck.

"I've killed in the past."
"You're making up for it now."

Eiri pulls the lithe body close, inhales the scent of strawberries. Kisses dot the skin of his neck as hands skim over his waist. A gasp sounds, dangerously close to his ear. Eiri grows tense, relaxes as cool hands ghost over his arousal.

"This isn't fair to you."
"It's okay, though…I don't mind."

Mewling quietly, Shuichi offers himself, willingly. The pain is brief - it swells then dissipates - and he takes it, because it brings Eiri pleasure. And pleasure is what's rightfully his, after so much pain.

"You don't have to be so good to me."
"I know, but I want to be."

Theme B: #4 - Fortitude

Smoke wafts from the end of the cigarette stick, a slight obstruction of Eiri’s view of his younger brother.

“Caught you in the act, huh?”

A quiet noise of affirmation and a nod. Tatsuha raises a hand to rub the back of his neck.

“So where is he now?”

“He left. It was a very dramatic exit. He’s getting better with words.” Eiri’s face sports a bemused smirk, betraying the troubled look in his eyes.

“You gotta stop getting into this mess, bro. The boy’s not gonna melt over half-hearted apologies anymore.”

Eiri scoffs, leans back into the couch and closes his eyes.

“He can’t resist me for long.”

Tatsuha frowns. He hates that his brother always acts indifferent when he’s trying to be serious with him.

“He’s been putting up with your shit for three years. The boy’s getting stronger. And if you don’t wise up, one day he’s gonna be strong enough to leave you for good.”

Eiri inhales deeply, lets the smoke collect in his mouth before parting his lips and setting it free. A nagging voice at the back of his mind tells him that his brother is right, but he doesn’t care enough to believe it. Or perhaps he’s too frightened to believe it.

“Are you done?”

An aggravated sigh slips from Tatsuha’s mouth. For a brief moment, they are both reminded of their sister. They would laugh about it, but right now it doesn’t seem appropriate.

“Yeah, I’m done. I’ll see you later.”

Tatsuha opens the door and almost runs into Shuichi on his way out. Both pause for a second or two; Tatsuha waves slightly and continues on his way. Shuichi stands in the doorway with his hands fisted at his sides. Eiri glances at him, thinks he looks a little tired. Shuichi thinks the same thing about him.

“I’m not going to apologize,” Eiri says through an exhale of smoke.

“Me neither.” Shuichi’s voice is the firmest Eiri’s ever heard it - he doesn’t like it.

Their eyes meet for several moments of silence, as if challenging each other. Finally, haltingly, Eiri looks away first.

“Are you coming in or not?”

A small smile slowly forms on the younger man’s face. He nods.

“Yeah.”

He closes the door.

Theme B: #1 - Faith

Eiri’s eyes flitted over to the digital clock for the third time in five minutes. He always started to get restless on the days when Shuichi would return from a tour. He didn’t like to admit it, but he was starting to hate these tours. As Bad Luck grew more and more popular, the tours became more and more frequent - not to mention longer. This last one had lasted well over a month. The longer Shuichi was gone, the more anxious the novelist got. Before leaving, Shuichi was always quick to tell him that he had nothing to worry about. And deep down, Eiri did know that.

“Yukiiiiiii!!!”

The corner of Eiri’s mouth threatened to turn up just the slightest, but he kept it back as he slowly rose from his chair and stepped out of the study. He watched as Shuichi toed off his sneakers and almost tripped over his bags as he ran to him. In the back of his mind, Eiri noted that he had asked the singer not to run in the apartment. But the thought disappeared as the younger man jumped him - arms around his neck, legs around his waist, lips devouring his own. Fleetingly, the writer realized, I’ve missed this, but dismissed the thought in favor of slipping his hands down the youth’s sides and grasping his behind to keep him falling, but mostly to simply get a good grope in. Shuichi gasped into their kiss in response, and Eiri took the opportunity to slide his tongue inside the open mouth, re-familiarizing himself with the territory of that warm cavern. He vaguely registered Shuichi’s fingers creeping upwards to sift through his hair, and shivered slightly at the feeling. Both tightened their grips on each other as the novelist started carrying the singer to the bedroom.

“I missed you,” Shuichi said when Eiri laid him down on the bed, and their mouths finally parted. “Did you worry?”

“No,” he lied, lips brushing over the skin of a revealed shoulder. He had faith in Shuichi, and the singer knew this. But he knew Shuichi could get carried away with all the attention. The body beneath him jerked slightly as he bit down too hard. He didn’t apologize, but Shuichi whispered, “it’s okay” into his ear anyway. Something told him that he would be sore in the morning, but that was fine. He belonged to Eiri - heart, body, and soul - and he didn’t mind reassuring him from time and time.

Theme B: #2 - Hope

Shuichi stood on the apartment balcony, gazing out at the night-lights of Tokyo. In his hand he held a box, a box that contained his crushed hope. It was a stupid idea, he thought, glancing down at it. It was stupid to think he would say yes.

They had been officially “together” for over a year and a half now. Almost two years, and Shuichi hadn’t been kicked out or made to sleep on the couch in all that time. All that time…and Shuichi had managed to talk himself into believing that, maybe…

Shuichi opened the box and looked at the ring for the hundredth time since he’d dared to buy it. It was a plain band, but it shone beautifully, and Shuichi knew Eiri wouldn’t like anything fancy or extravagant, anyway. It didn’t matter now, though.

He sighed and was about to close the box when he felt warmth enveloping him from behind. Eiri wrapped his arms around him, bringing his hands to cover Shuichi’s, keeping the box open. Shuichi leaned back against him, comforted by his embrace.

“Ask me another day.”

Shuichi turned his head slightly to look at the novelist. He tried to meet his eyes, but he was looking at the ring.

“What?”

“Another day,” Eiri repeated patiently. “When I’m ready for it.”

Shuichi’s heart pounded quickly in his chest, and he felt his face start to heat up. What was Eiri saying?

“Yuki…”

Eiri looked at him, his intense golden gaze making Shuichi’s breath catch in his throat. The novelist smirked a bit.

“If anyone can get me to say yes,” he said in a low voice that sent pleasant shivers down Shuichi’s spine, “it’ll be you.”

Shuichi gasped quietly, small tears of emotion gathering in his eyes. Turning in Eiri’s arms, Shuichi buried his face in the warm, broad chest before him. Eiri held him lightly. He sniffled.

“Yuki?”

“Don’t ruin the moment with your talking.”

“What if I asked you tomorrow?”

Eiri hit the pink head affectionately.

“Idiot.”

Shuichi laughed and let the ring box close. His hope renewed, he knew that it would be opened again. Not today and not tomorrow. But another day.
