puppy issues

It seems that Davey was pretty aggressive toward the upstairs neighbor's toddler when everyone was outside for a bit yesterday. I'm hoping that it's just the stress of moving and adjusting to a new environment that caused his reaction ( Read more... )

I think the dogs need to be socialized a bit more. That's the sign of a dog that's only comfortable in his own environment. Maya was like that at first.
Of course, the main reason my parents socialized Maya is because she can do a LOT of damage when she gets aggressive.

It's fixable though. You just train the dog to be more comfortable in groups and in situations they aren't used to.

Plus, he's still a puppy, so there's plenty of room to train him.

Basil was aggressive towards the kid we used to babysit, but we got him out of that after a few tries. He still doesn't like to be hit by kids though... but what dog does?

Maybe Joe and Linda could help with this? I don't know anyone who knows more about dogs than them. Also, we have dogs that they could hang out with, but I think in any dog socializing situation it's going to be alot of barking, growling, and maybe a little fighting. Maybe they need to get put in their place, maybe they need to understand that biting (or being aggressive with) humans is not an option. I have to admit that I am lucky with dogs and although I spend a little time training them I have a good natural way with them. Basil is very good, but it could be because I spend alot (too much) time with him.

And also...please pick the child over the dog.
