Ken had been debating with himself for most of the morning. Should he go talk to her, or shouldn't he? After his fifth cup of coffee, he heaved himself to his feet and started pacing, rubbing at his face every now and again. After the fifth trip around his office, he headed out the door, making sure to snag his gun on the way out. The idea of Ken arming himself in headquarters was odd, since he was still very much a hand to hand guy, but a quick look at him would tell anyone that he was on edge and more than a little tired.
Hand raised, he paused in front of Beckett's office, taking a deep breath before he knocked and poked his head in.
Beckett's head snapped up at the knock. She waved Ken in, noting his attitude and his stance. The look on the man's face didn't belie his feelings, but Beckett had no clue where to start. This wasn't another flamethrower conversation.
She, for once, wished it was.
"Close the door, have a seat." Her voice was calm, but expectant as she stood to close the blinds in front of the window before returning to her own seat behind the desk.
He closed the door behind him, but sitting wasn't an option. No, he was back to pacing, hands stuffed in his pockets. It took him a moment before he stopped in front of her desk, gaze low.
"I've been having nightmares off and on since that jackass ate me, but he's right. He wasn't the one that killed me. I... remember everything. Saxon didn't kill me."
That was the last thing she'd expected to hear. That entire case was something that still raised her hackles, and now that Ken was bringing it up with new information, those hackles were straight up.
She knew Ken fairly well, trusted him to get the job done. But she didn't know him like her boys at home. And this wasn't sitting right with her right off the bat. "What do you mean you suddenly remember everything?"
Well, she had found the office, assuming that Castle's directions had been right, and she had no reason to suspect otherwise with him. Of course, even if she did, she had no other information to help her find the police force in this city. Everything that she had worked towards in Ankh-Morpork, and now it was all gone. She had to start over. While it was not the easiest thing she'd done, she'd certainly done things that were much harder. Fighting her brother, for one. She took a deep breath in, and knocked.
The knock was expected; Beckett was informed of the visitor and luckily had just set to go to lunch. The half an hour she took for herself was hardly a huge loss, if it meant gaining more help at the station.
She took the greeting that was, she carefully avoided using the term 'barked', shouted through the door, as an invitation in. She knew better than to immediately start looking around all over, as most people tend to do when they enter a room. She did, however, look around a little, and less obviously, without turning her head or moving her eyes. But that wasn't why she was here.
"Chief Beckett? Rick Castle told me about you. I'm new and I'd like to join the police force here. I'm Angua." Perfect-sounding delivery. Quick, informative, and as non-suspicious as she could muster.
Fresh meat was always welcome, and Beckett wasn't unfriendly -- she smiled and waved a hand at one of the seats in front of her.
"Angua, nice to have you in. Have a seat, we'll talk over what you bring to the table." As if Beckett had much of a choice. The force was smaller than she could risk saying no to new recruits for.
