Wow, has it really been that long since I posted? I guess I’m better at reading my friends pages than I am at posting. I didn’t get quite as much writing done as I would have liked, and I didn’t get any responses on my queries. I was hoping to get one or two. The waiting is killing me, so I made a quick list of what I have out there.

The waiting IS the hardest part. (Although the rejection letters aren't so great either...)

I was writing for three years before getting an agent, but didn't look for one for the first two years, subbing directly to editors. I think I queried around 15-20 agents over the course of a year before the right one found me. :)

Good luck ~ persistence is the key!

Thanks Kym. Patience has never been my strong suit. On my snail mail queries, I'm picturing the pony express crossing the midwest to the east coast, stopping at every possible diner and watering hole. I'm sure the snow isn't helping. I do have my email queries - I picture those floating around cyber space, and then landing in an over crowded inbox just screaming PICK ME PICK ME.

Knowing other writers have made it out of the slush pile and in the hands of great agents and editors keeps me going.

Your descriptions of the mail system cracked me up!

In my case, it really was a matter of dedication to my craft and good luck at meeting someone at a writer's retreat who thought her agent might like my novel. When I got back home and read MA's profile, she said she was looking for stories that had freak/geek protagonists, as well as realistic tween stories, and I was like, "OMG! She's perfect for me!" (And she is! Hope she feels the same...)

I wish you the BEST, BEST, BEST of luck at finding the perfect match for you. Can't wait until that happens! KYM

Oh, what I wouldn't give for 6 requests -- full or partials. Even one or two :-) Thanks for sharing!

I'll be looking for Lament this fall! and congrats again on signing the second book.
