I've seen this uhhwhatdoyoucallit survey? traveling around the 'net. :)

ps. Religion is not the root of all evil. It would be easier (and more realistic and peaceful) to incorporate it into society in a way that caused less suffering than to dismiss it as an abomination against humanity and seek to destroy it.

I really like this. It's a very open-minded perspective to take. Thank you.

I don't think it would be easier at all to change it. You also have to be careful, because a lot of religion can get incredibly violent when people's beliefs come into question, so it is not just that the main religions right now are violent, but religion in the hands of people can be violent.

Also:
"...in a way that caused less suffering..."
So there is an acceptable amount of suffering that something can cause? How much is accpetable to support something for which I see no real purpose. I know what you're going to say "Peopel feel comforted, and it gives hope." If you need a man in the sky who listens to your thoughts to keep on living, to have hope, or to feel comfort, then you are pretty pathetic.

How much [suffering] is accpetable to support something for which I see no real purpose. It's impossible to eradicate suffering. If you want to actually change something for the better, set realistic goals, and lessening suffering is certainly something to strive for. I agree that there are negative aspects of religion, but I think that it would be better (and more realistic) to try to lessen them, eventually eliminating them (if that's possible). Saying that religion is terrible is only increasing the hatred in the world and does not actually do anything. While some people may think that a law against killing is against their religion, this is a law that is beneficial for society. There can be other such laws. It's a tough path to go down, and it will be impossible to satisfy everyone, but passing laws against the more extreme/harmful aspects of religion would be better in decreasing suffering than doing nothing. [ex. Laws that give women more equal rights to men in countries where the religions may say otherwise ( ... )

But why keep a system that inherently causes suffering? That is what I don't understand, why are people so up on keeping these organizations that cause suffering and death so that some people can have a little increased comfort in their lives. The increased hatred that atheists bring to the table is completely negligible. Do you know how many people have died because of atheism? None. (The fact is, I was louder when talking about the number of children people should have) How many have died(and are still dying) because of religion? Hundreds? Thousands? Millions? When does that end? The only foreseeable end I can see is when religion ends ( ... )

So basically, from your first statement, religion is a selfish tool so that individuals can better "deal with life"? I think that makes it even worse that it is being twisted around to physically harm others ( ... )
