So last night was ALICE COOPER.
Me and Xoco got there right on time after a really icky three and a half hour drive, parts of it through heavy traffic, to Anaheim. We watched the opening band, which was kind of an AC/DC ripoff band (the guitarist was a COMPLETE Angus Young ripoff) from Alaska. Their songs were ok but they were sort of annoying. Anyway...we were about three people from the front, by nudging our way through the crowd (general admission rules) when ALICE COOPER came on.
It was such an amazing show, I don't even know how to describe it. It was so theatrical and organized, it was like watching a rock concert and a play at the same time. Alice wore all these different costumes, suited for the songs, and he had all these props and things. He had a leather whip and some batons and things which he threw out into the crowd. Me and Xoco each caught one of the bassist (Chuck Garric)'s picks. Alice was really theatrical in the way he sang and twirled his props around, you could tell everything was planned out really well. During one part, the two guitarists went up and started playing on part of the drumkit, and the two of them and the drummer did this coordinated drum solo, and it was BADASS. There was a lot of cool stuff like that. You could tell Alice wanted to focus on the band as a whole rather than just himself, which I thought was cool. Alice told a "Halloween story" to introduce the band members...it was a "scary story," heh. They played Hello Hooray, Billion Dollar Babies, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Desperado, I'm Eighteen, Poison...and lots of other songs...basically the Alice Cooper highlights. It was a really great, energetic show. Even the over-forty crowd was reeeeally into it. After the show me and Xoco were insanely sore and insanely thirsty...we drove to Carls Jr. and gulped down a bunch of ice water and soda, and then hit the road to come back home. It was a much more enjoyable drive than the way down, probably because I was half asleep the whole time, but still holding conversation. Anyway. A great night. Alice is the fucking man.
