Smoke on the water...the fire in the sky

So yesterday me and Xoco (un_loveable) hit the road to L.A. to see Deep Purple, Joe Satriani, and Thin Lizzy.

We hit a lot of traffic and we ended up being late...I was trying to hear who was playing as we walked toward the venue and I hear a voice go "This next one's called 'Bad Reputation.'" I was like...well, DAMN. We missed a lot of Thin Lizzy's set, but what we saw was great. John Sykes was playing quite a mean guitar. It's funny that they call themselves Thin Lizzy because I'm pretty sure they are nowhere near the original incarnation of the band. But they were worth watching.

Joe Satriani was GREAT! He's an amazing player of course. Most of his songs have no words, but he's such a great showman. I wanted to watch him down on the stage but I couldn't tear my eyes from the big screens, because I was watching his hands fly around on the guitar. He went down really well with the audience, played a great set.

Deep Purple were excellent too. Steve Morse is fucking awesome. Me and Xoco seemed to be the only ones around who were actually INTO the music, a lot of the people around us sat down for the whole show, left before the encore...and a few were making bitchy comments the whole time (bitches). The highlight of the show was when they brought Joe Satriani out onstage. He and Steve jammed for a while, copying each other, and then they broke into "Smoke on the Water"...it was incredible! Satch + Steve Morse. Awesome.

Anyway, good show, bad audience, but a great time overall. On the way back there was soooo much fog on the freeway when we went near the ocean. Crazy. But we got home ok...and had a midnight trip to In & Out to top it all off.
