Some things have been getting my goat lately. Several times in the last week I've come across people pointing out that Lemaître was a Catholic priest (a Jesuit to be precise) who played a major role in the formation of cosmology as we know it - he proposed the Big Bang initially in fact ( Read more... )

I think linking Catholicism with science is a good thing, actually. I agree that there isn't necessarily a link between belief and the positing of a new theory of cosmic order, but at least it's better than Creationism!

I wouldn't like to try to think too much about whether it's good or bad. Too many things to consider, and you could argue about it all day.
I chose my pudding analogy with care. I'm not saying we should do away with the pudding - obviously I like my pudding - just stop drawing links between things with flimsy evidence.
