I clearly have too much time on my hands.

This makes my brain hurt.

Yay for fire alarms! Big yay for fire engines! Awesomely big yay for firemen!

Big unyay for anyone that might have set fire to our recycling bin.

That'd be my DPhil (read PhD but Oxford-poncey) viva that I've passed. At last.

Not half as stressful as my earlier stress warranted, but more relieved than anything that it's done.

I saw this story on, I think, Newsnight last night. The reporter who researched the story was clearly of similar thinking to me, and I think had some editorial control not been put on him he'd have ranted quite nicely on the subject ( Read more... )

I walked to work today, and got a bit wet in the process. As I was walking I wondered just how many raindrops were falling around me. Now, people are notoriously bad at guessing big numbers, and raindrops fall rather too fast to count and then multiply out an estimate, so I got to work without having much idea ( Read more... )

A trip to North Korea - photos and commentary from a Russian visitor to North Korea, kindly translated (in a condensed form) for English speakers. The photographs are fascinating. It's a creepy place.

Slight problem in my kitchen. I've discovered a plastic bag or two have decided to leave imprints on my kitchen lino of 'Keep Britain Tidy' (or as brrm pointed out 'ydiT niatirB peeK').

I've tried scrubbing with Jif, soaking and scrubbing with bleach, and generally scrubbing to no avail. Any suggestions on how it might be removed?
