iTunes Help!

I'm really, really hoping one of you tech-savvy ladies can help me. I just got a new laptop and when I transferred my iTunes library over from my old computer, a shit ton of my songs quit working. This is not the first time I've changed computers, but I've never had this problem before! I've noticed that the problem songs are the oldest ones in my ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm starting to really hate it now too. What do you use?

My hubby DLed my songs for me again illegally, but a lot of them don't work, or cut off part of the beginning of the song. I probably shouldn't be so picky, but I'm really anal about my music, so that bothers me. I lost about $50 in music, stuff I actually bought legally. All of my illegal stuff transferred just fine. I'm so frustrated!

If not for my beloved iPod, I wouldn't be using iTunes, especially after this! I would say about 60% of my stuff is legal, and look what I get for being a good girl! I guess I'm going to scrounge some of my library back from Alanna and DL the rest illegally. I rely on my hubby to get my illegal stuff because he's so paranoid about me DLing a virus, so who knows when I'll get it all back. With this and the 100th epi, I've been a cranky bitch all week! ;)

Hmmm...usually all of my itunes store-bought songs transfer straight to the new computer from my ipod and it's the mp3s that won't transfer. At least, that's been my experience.

I have no suggestions. Usually I'll just get a big USB drive, fill it with my mp3s, and transfer it to my new comp. I'm sure you've already tried this though so I have no help to offer there.

I'm like 99% sure it's the anti-piracy thing. After looking at their DL policies, I found out that you can only transfer songs on 5 computers or burn them to disc 7 times. There are no limits on sharing iTunes Plus music, and since these songs were all purchased before iTunes Plus, I'm thinking I've reached the limit (even though I know I haven't copied the songs that many times!). This really sucks!

drm is annoying, especially when it's limiting songs that you actually PAID for.

it's kind of a hack, but i usually unlock my songs by rerecording them using audio hijack pro. (might just be a mac app) takes as long as the actual length of the song, but as it's all digital anyway, it doesn't degrade the quality. cuz of the time thing, it's something i usually do as i buy them. so might not be of much help to you and your shit ton of non working songs.

there might be some software out there that strips the drm from audio files, i haven't heard of anything, but i don't know conclusively. you'd have to do some poking around.

Hmm, thanks! I have a PC and I'm not very computer savvy at all, but I'll poke around like you suggested. I'm definitely re-thinking the way I DL music from now on!
