I wish I had hair like that :) Yeah, I want to get more into old cartoons that pre-date the Disney interpretation of things. They are so much more interesting. I used to watch this adaptation of "The Snow Queen" too, but I can't remember what studio it was from
oh you would really love it! I cried for a good half an hour last night at the ending. haha. My grandmom really likes sad things, and she would get me the most depressing cartoons on the planet. They were good though. I specifically remember another one too, "Journey Through Fairyland", which was from Japan and based around classical music pieces. AAAH, VHS :)
Wow, this takes me back! I specifically remember buying this vhs at a yard sale when I was like...8 or 9. I was a little curious as to why she was naked and why it didn't end like the Disney version. I think it was this movie that lead me to do a book report on Hans Christian Anderson and his other fairy tales.
Great movie! (I always hated that princess for getting in Marina's way)
I was confused that she was naked too! Before I always just thought the movie was sad, but last night I was particularly hit by how stoic Marina is and the purity of her love. If the other princess was bad, it would have been easy to hate her, but she was a good person too...I could never love someone so much. And the concept of a hopeful loving suicide...
I bought a book of Hans Christian Anderson stories when I was little too. All of his stories were pretty tragic, huh?
