Is Dramione dying?

Jan 27, 2010 15:36

I was reading this post over at Dramione. It's about a loss of stories/writers to the ship. Does anyone out there feel like they've moved on from Dramione for one reason or another, or that other notable people have?

I'm really looking forward to the Hawthorn and Vine (hawthorn_vine) archive being up and running! I reckon the Dramione fandom took a major hit when ( Read more... )

Actually, I think some of the best stories have been written in the past 2 years, after DH. I do hope with the new archive on LJ things will pick up even for the better. I know for one, I enjoy all the stories on GE and most of the fics I wanted to read I've found on LJ or simply by asking. Maybe I'm just optimistic by nature but I do believe the HP fandom has much more to offer since it is a very detailed world full of possibilities. I think Twilight can't even compare even though fanfic authors can improve the characters, give them more layers. But the world of Twilight is so narrower than HP.

Also, I don't think you should torture yourself by reading/editing Water from the beginning. I love it just the way it is. Trust me, that way leads to madness. I spend most of the last year thinking my novel was rubbish beacuse I concentrated on style and wording rather than story. I'm sure there are more stories in you. Try out something new. Water is something to be immensely proud of.

Ok, this wasn't supposed to be this long :-) Honestly.

I haven't read any new fic in a while. But I'm certainly aware it's out there. When the archive is up it will make it much easier to really get started on all the fic I've missed.

I totally agree with you on the HP fandom! I think it's the best one out there, and it's still the most popular. The range of characters and the world they live in create a HUGE range of possibilities. That's probably why, after 4 years, I'm still here.

Unfortunately I have to change a bit if I want to get it on GE. They are really strict about formatting and even POV changes (- I didn't realise this but in some of the earlier chapters I changed the POV between Draco and Hermione within the same scene sometimes, without making it clear). Plus they are exceptionally hot on grammar etc. So I'm trying my best to get it up to standard! I'm definitely not changing the style...but I'm added in commas and full stops where some sentences seemed to go on forever. Once the story gets into Ch4 it starts to read a bit better, IMO.

I like long comments! =D

Well, once you're finished - you know what would be great? A nice pdf of entire Water to send out to people via e-mail :-DD

Well, Water is so long, it's quite impossible to catch every little mistake, but I do applaud GE for their strict rules.

About Dramione, I do stray into other pairings just to see what's going on but they are my favourites. In case you want to read something - Thin Line is not very long but it's brilliant

And I can't say enough about the Revenant - it's got romance, humour, mystery, angst, and it simply amazing.

It's a bit longer, but I do think you'll like it.

Oooo thank you for the recs. I'm really going to indulge in some Dramonie fic when I've next properly earned myself some free time. These two will be ones I will look at, and I'll let you know what I think!

I also really really need to re-read Pansy's Volcano by bluemidget. I never got far enough with ti, and never had the time to concentrate on it, but I really want to get that read because I remember it being so good! OH AND also The Fallout by Sage. My list is basically growing all the time.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO @ TWILIGHT.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?!?! But why so?!?!!! I get that the books are crappy but surely there's some good stuff to be done with the characters.

I will def be venturing into Merlin. The unresolved sexual tension between Arthur and Merlin in the show (- seriously, it's like they intended everyone to think they fancied the pants off each other) means I really need to read some sexy stuff with those two...

The characters are too far gone to be saved. :(

Merlin and Arthur...on the other hand... ;)

Haha. :P Sorry, I am a bad person. If you want to get into Twilight, that is your business not mine. :P

Hey it's totally your business!! If you think Twilight is terrible, by all means, TELL ME!! My mind is a blank fandom slate at the moment just waiting to be influenced...

I haven't really read much Twilight fic so I can't really judge. I'll take a look at some point, esp cos there are a couple of good writers on my flist who have written things.

Are you a Merlin/Arthur shipper then? I'm guessing that's the main one or...? Please fill me in!! I need to know the ins and outs.

I have been thinking about the lack of Dramione fictions too. I hate that CG has disapear because it was a good archive, I hope the fandom doesn't disapear too I love it way too much.

I am excited about the litle changes you have done to water, I love that fiction and I think is perfection as it is but I am pretty sure is going to still be awesome even with the changes.

The changes aren't to the plot or really anything that noticeable - just tweaks here and there. Some of the earlier chapters were so messy! And I didn't have a beta for them which explains it.

The fandom definitely won't disappear. And when all the stories find a new archive things will pick up again! There are still a lot of die-hard Dramione fans out there, and I'm one of them! =D

Thank you for being so nice about Water, too.

I have to say I don't mind Harry/Draco. Although I've never really read much fic featuring that pairing centrally.

My least favourite pairing is Ron/Hermione!! Even though it's canon! Weirdly, I like them in the JKR books but not so much in fanfic.

You can really tell I started writing it four years ago without any real experience. I was cringing at some of it!!

That's the same with me and Beautiful, which I started before I started my writing degree. It is a punctuation mess! I sort of attempted a clean up and then got overwhelmed. lol. Don't think I've forgotten about your Water update! I have the next two days off and plan on throwing myself into it!

As for the Twilight fandom, good luck! I wanted to get into it, but if you join any of the main communities, they are so active they flood your flist. And there is SO MUCH FIC that it is really really hard to find anything of quality.

I have not watched Merlin or Glee (I know, I know), but I do find myself intrigued by Supernatural's fandom every once in awhile. Some real quality fic there, if you wade through the Wincest, which ain't my thing. lol.

Yeah I was thinking that about Twilight. And I've heard that the people in the fandom aren't as friendly - although that could be a massive generalisation. The Twilighted Archive has some good fics though so there is some stuff out there worth reading. But I haven't even finished the last book yet. I was distracted from reading it for a while and have yet to go back to it...

Watch Glee!!! It's so much fun. And there are only 13 eps you need to catch up on. Merlin, for me, is all about Arthur at the moment. Just watch the first epsiode with the intention of seeing him and you'll find you keep watching... Well I did anyway!

I've never seen Supernatural. But I've always seen it has a pretty massive fandom on here. How many seasons has it had now?
