They meet in secret, his fingers trailing through her hair in the dark. In the protective shadows of her bedroom they entwine together, not caring any longer what makes sense. By the light of the moon they build their devotions with their hearts, their words, and their bodies. It is a rather perfect union other than the fact that they can tell no one when they are together, and it is enough for them.
“I wish we didn’t have to sneak around like this,” Anne-Sophie whispers, and Yuzuru laughs and holds her against his chest.
“I like it. I think it’s intriguing, don’t you?” he asks with a rather dangerous wink, and she smiles wryly at him.
“You’d never be happy with us as a normal couple, would you?” his forbidden wife teases, and he strokes one strong hand along the length of her supple body and smiles.
“Yes I will. Soon,” he promises, kissing her on the mouth. “Soon the Ootori family will have your cure and you can come to Japan with me, I promise. I won’t let my mother keep you away this time. You’ll see Tamaki and I every day and we’ll all be happy.”
“You’re such a dreamer,” she tells him, pretending to be dismissive. She looks like a fairytale princess but she has always been the more practical one of the twosome. He kisses her neck and she giggles.
“Only when I dream of you,” he whispers against her skin, and they fall to each other again in the sweet darkness of the Paris night. Much later she draws tea in the kitchen and he sits at the warm wood of her table and tells her of life in Japan and of Tamaki’s daily misadventures.
“And how are things with that girl of his?” Anne-Sophie asks as she brings Yuzuru’s tea. She takes her own with five sugars, still looking at him.
“Slow,” Yuzuru chuckles. “They may not be dating yet, but he’s going to marry her. Mark my words. I can tell from a mile away.”
Anne-Sophie laughs at him and musses his hair. “You’re balding,” she tells him, and he tackles her to the floor with tickles until she takes it back. Here in the warm, safe togetherness of this moment, the both of them can only focus on the cozy happiness that has been presented to them. They fall asleep in each other’s arms, talking softly of the future.
“Soon we’ll be together like this always,” Yuzuru promises, a rare moment of seriousness showing through his usual teasing demeanor, and she presses closer to his chest and smiles.
She likes the sound of soon.
