One of the most marvellous things about travelling - to my mind - is finding out the details of how life is lived differently in other places by other people. I think the trick is giving people enough things they can latch on to fairly easily that they are willing to make the effort for the unfamiliar. You are, in many ways, asking your readers to learn a foreign language. This isn't really a problem, because we all do this to some extent in real life - but if there is too much that is not immediately comprehensible, it can turn into sufficiently hard work that one starts to lose track of the plot ( ... )
