Hummingbirds

There was an old hummingbird feeder in the barn that looked useful after a good cleaning. I made up sugar water (1:4 by volume) and put out the feeder on the side of the house. There are only a couple of birds around, at least that I can make out so I wasn't expecting much. Still, I hadn't seen any and thought perhaps I had boiled off too much

I saw a hummingbird buzzing the leaves of the pecan tree outside my kitchen window. I saw another one at the end of the driveway frolicking with a pair of butterflies. I know it was probably a predator prey situation, but they really seemed to be playing.

Hummingbirds are cool.

When we were in Jamaica (I think, but it may have been somewhere in Florida), we went to a house with a ton of hummingbirds and hummingbird feeders, and I got to hold a feeder while a hummingbird ate out of it. That was the first time I had really seen a hummingbird up close and it was a very magical moment for me.
