The old antique shop - Part four

Aug 11, 2009 20:58

I just felt I had to post something. It's still rather rough and things might be added or removed at any time, but I'm putting it up here for you to see.
I could write a lot here, but I'll try not to. It's my nerves talking, I sent a Very Important Mail an hour or so ago, and am anxiously waiting the answer since it might hold the answer to exactly ( Read more... )

I'm glad you finally posted more of this story. I was excited to see if you'd take some direction with the story ( ... )

Thanks a lot for your thoughts, I definitely see what you mean by them! I had several people thinking the main character was a girl in the beginning, so I'll have to clarify that earlier somehow :)
The other things are also very true, and things I'll have to think of when I go back to write my second draft! Right now I'm mostly writing what comes to me, jotting down ideas and conversations in my notebook and then putting it all together, so I guess some things will be missing.
Also, I haven't written in a 1st person perspective for quite some time, it might be that it takes some getting used to :)

Thanks for wonderful critique that was true and helpful without being harsh! I'm also very glad that you're excited about the story!

How nice for us that writing helps distract you from a stressful situation, because I am enjoying your story and looking forward to seeing what you add next. I hope everything works out as you hope, with the future plans. Best wishes!

Very fascinating, the last line gave me shivers. I love you bringing in that Francis loves to read, helps the rest of us readers identify more strongly with the character since obviously we all love to read as well. The longing for adventure and for knowing things that other boys don't is definitely a common child characteristic and you described that very well.
I love the line about wanting to see someone and doubting you ever would again, so true and described so well I could remember the times I've felt the same thing.
The last bit though was definitely my favorite and leaves me anxiously waiting for more. Mr. Witherscombe is just a fascinating character as it is and when you combine that revelation with Cuchulainn's reaction to him, well I'm just dying to learn more about him!
Great job and I look forward to the next part. I know I find writing to be great stress relief so I'm glad it helps you there as well but if you don't have time to write or post don't feel bad! We can be patient ;-)

Thanks a lot, I'm as excited about writing as people seem to be about reading, which (as I can't say enough) is very flattering. I had almost given up on the become-a-writer-dream from my childhood, but I can feel it starting to stir again :)

Very nice new chapter. I wish I had found time to sit and read it sooner. I've been sort of waylaid, by, uh. games. >___>;;;;

(its my no. 1 vice)

I like that you reveal more about Francis. It seems that he has a few friends at school that he shares interests with. I remember doing this when I was younger, with some friends. And though I didn't talk to them overly much (they were not my best friends, or anything), the exchange meant something serendipitous and sort of, exciting.

I also like how mysterious and eclectic Mr. Witherscombe and his ancient books are. Just wonderful.

Here's looking forward for more.

Oh, and here's hoping you will get a good reply for your Very Important Letter.

:)

Heheh, games <3 I used to play way too much different games but now my computer's so grumpy, it won't let me play anything (which part of me is quite thankful of, hehe, but I still miss it)

I like that about Francis having some like-minded friends, which I guess I wrote when I wrote about that magazine-thing without realizing it, hehe. I'm sometimes a bit unaware of what I'm actually writing (so caught up in the process) I'm glad you pointed it out, it might come in handy later :)
