I regret to inform you that this is going to be one of the least interesting journal entries you will ever read. This is because I am tired, but don't feel like sleeping. I don't feel like showering right now, I think I'll do that in the morning. I should do it now, because I have time and I actually need to do HW and stuff (real work that I get ( Read more... )

Refresh my memory as to what you drive? I wanna say a riceburner (honda, I believe?) There's no reason for it to die soon. Honestly, I've seen hondas from 1982 still running strong, with over 300K miles on them. As long as the car's properly maintained, it should last you at least another 5 years (conservatively). Unless there's a prior condition with the car, "she's gonna die soon" sounds like a cop-out to me, cuz you want a new car. Hell, even my POS FORD (F*cked Over Repaired Dodge) lasted 13 years before dying, and that was just the tranny because of an electrical problem. Had the problem been caught early enough, I'd still have that thing, the engine still runs super strong. And everyone knows that for durability/longevity, the riceburners KILL the domestics. Honestly, owning a car that was paid off was one the things that made me happiest. Then when something small did go wrong, I didn't feel bad dropping a hundred bucks into it, cuz that's all I was spending. Not making a $300 car payment every month was AMAZING. And because I ( ... )

I do drive a Honda, and it is lasting pretty well, but I crashed it once, and I don't currently have the money to fix whatever noise the engine is making. Every time I do have money, it goes to something else, like Christmas presents or books or other such nonsense. My insurance is expensive b/c while I do legally own my car (my stepdad paid it off and now I pay him) I do have an accident on my record less than 3 years ago (they rape you for that kinda stuff). I love my baby-car, but if she's not going to be reliable then I'm gonna have to find a car that is.

Well, what kind of noise is it? If it's a noise the car makes ALL the time that it's on, and it's a squeak, I'd bet it's just a belt... if you have someone who's handy with cars, they can replace it for the cost of the belt (about $30 or so, I believe, for a Honda), or you can take it in, and it will cost you about $50 or so with labor. Still not bad. From my point of view, it is better to sink $100 or $150 every six months into a car that's paid off than to make a $300 car payment every month and STILL have to drop money into basic upkeep every few months. If you don't have the money now to pay for a $50 belt, how will you have the money later to make a $300 or $400 car payment? Just wondering. I know that even when I was making close to $3K a month last year, I still wouldn't have wanted to be making a car payment, it was nice to have disposeable income. Sure, I could be driving a new mustang, or a scion tC, but I had money to spendon other stuff, friends, going out, food, rent, etc. Just my $.02
