Why I support #welovetheNHS

I feel the need to comment because it’s something I feel strongly about. Yes I’ll start off by saying that the NHS is not perfect, but it is our countries greatest achievement. The barrage of attacks from American Conservatives have disgusted me, they branded our healthcare system as “evil” and “Orwellian” that we ( Read more... )

Thank you. I hesitate to say that America's health care system is one of the most deplorable things about our country (after all, the KKK is still around, hate crimes are still common, gay marriage isn't legal, and we elected Bush... twice), but it's certainly shameful. Your NHS sounds like a system to be proud of.

Thanks, it only statistically takes 5% of a population to bring change, raise your voice for what you believe in.

I read this today and was throughly shocked and disgusted.

:| I couldn't even finish it. Realizing that because I'm someone who gets regular medical checkups and dental work, I'm privileged? Yeah.

Same, I read though it and though to myself, how fucking lucky I am to live in a country that provides free universal care for all it's population.

Health care isn't a privilage it's a right.

Both of my surviving grandparents were recently in hospital and I can't tell you waht a weight it was of my mother and aunt's shoulders to know they could get the care they needed and we didn't have to worry about a bill at the end.

I do feel quite lucky with the NHS. Although I have to say I'm maybe biased - one of my cousins is a surgeon, his wife is a doctor, my uncle's a retired doctor, my aunt's a retired nurse and one of my closest friends is a nurse.

Still I will defend it because it is something we should all have. Health is something we should all have. Not just those who can pay for it.

A-FUCKING-MEN. Now if only those big-headed, money hungry faggots in America would realise that and let the fucking health bill pass already. UGH.

Obama, please keep fighting for it. Please!

Amen sistah.

Listening to (or reading, w/e) some of the more extreme American comment on the NHS is plain worrying, since it consists mainly of lies and misrepresentation. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's pretty damn good! I read about a "journalist" who claimed that "if Stephen Hawking had grown up in the UK he would have been killed as being a financial burden" (or words to that effect, I'm paraphrasing). This is bullshit in several respects: Steven Hawking DID grow up in the UK, and says that he wouldn't be where he is without the NHS.
