Oh, this was heartbreaking. I really loved the way Gaius and Uther's relationship paralleled Merlin and Arthur's. And it goes a long way toward explaining why Gaius is always telling Merlin he needs to save Uther and that Arthur isn't ready to be King yet. Apparently Gaius isn't ready to give up his own King quite yet, destiny or no. So much story in such a relative handful of words. Nicely done!

I totally think there needs to be more Gaius/Uther fic out there. They have so much history together. (Actually, I think there should be more Uther/Merlin fic too, but that's for another day. *g*)
