I love it when a book totally transports me. It's so rare to come across one that does, so the ones that do are special to me. But I also like to read books all in one long go. Last night I had to leave the book I was reading to go to bed and all I want to do is get back to it.
Percy and the Olympians sounds interesting. A good concept, anyway. I'll have to check it out.
What are you reading these days? It's so hard being work and only wanting to think about the book you're waiting to get back to.
I have been pondering The Lightning Thief book more this morning. I really think it is significantly better than Harry Potter. I flipped through the pages, and I realized his writing style is a lot cleaner than hers. And I think the main character is more appealing. I just looked up the author and discovered that he is a teacher who used to write adult mystery books. And the print run for his fourth installment in this series was 1,000,000.
Maybe someday we can have a print run of 1,000,000. Wouldn't that be sweet?
I shall have to check out that book now - it was a big seller at the book fair and looked interesting, but I haven't had time to look at it too much. How did you like Specials? I enjoyed that trilogy a good deal. That same author wrote a book titled Peeps that is a really interesting take on how vampires came about - all due to parasites. Every other chapter is about a specific kind of parasite and while it gets a little graphic and kinda grossed me out I was highly intrigued by it all. It's always nice to find time to read, but kinda sucky that you had to be sick to to do it. Hope you're feeling better soon.
I really enjoyed Specials. I felt like Westerfeld made the relationship between Tally and Shay very realistic (I had a friend like that), and it seemed almost odd to me that he was able to write it so convincingly considering his gender. Did you know that he is married to another YA writer, Justine Larbalestier? I wasn't so keen on the end of Specials, but the rest of it was very good. Were the first two books equally good? I may have to check out Peeps.
And oh my goodness, I just finished reading Stephanie Meyer's Twilight. It is so good that I read it all today. I don't even usually like vampires or vampire stories -- I bought it only because I heard her latest book had a print run of 1.5 million(!) and that she got a crazy big advance for it. I wanted to see what the fuss was about. All I can say is Wow. The premise sounded so corny but the writing was just magical. I need someone else to read it so I can chatter excitedly about it. I guess it had to be good to be a best seller with a girl as the main character.
